Tournament Information

Mat time is key to becoming a successful wrestler.  One of the fastest ways to improve is to hit the open tournament circuit.  Traveling can add up, so it is best to find a group and carpool to the different tournaments.  This is also much “funner” for the kids, as they get to hang out with their friends during the day.  There are two different types of tournaments you can attend during the season, Novice level and Open.  These tournaments are not part of our schedule and do have entry fees associated with them.  If you need your USA Wrestling card let me know.

Novice Tournaments

These tournaments are only for 1st and 2nd year wrestlers that have never placed in an open tournament. Any wrestler on my team that is entering their 3rd year wrestling or has placed in any open tournament and found at one of these tournaments will be dismissed from the team indefinitely. If you are unsure of your status, please ask. The purpose of novice tournaments are to get new wrestlers mat time against opponents that are similar in ability. The Maryland Novice “Future Champion Series” Tournaments are nice because the kids get three matches in approximately 2 hours and are done. Most of the other tournaments here are similar as well. Request information to find out. If you have a 1st or 2nd year wrestler try to make a few of these, it will help immediately.

The 2010 MSWA “Future Champions” Tournament Schedule can be found here.  For more information about the series please head to www.marylandwrestling.org.

Open Tournaments

These tournaments are for everyone. The competition level is usually high and makes for a great day of wrestling.  There are various levels of open tournaments and some require you to qualify.  Please check to ensure that your wrestler is eligible to wrestle in a specific tournament.  You can find a variety of tournaments on various wrestling sites, many of which are located on our Links page.
