Wrestling is a tough sport, not only physically but mentally as well. Not every kid
is ready day 1 to run out on the mat in front of a crowd and do battle all by himself.
But every kid can benefit from what this sport offers. So to try and help get more
kids in the room and keep more of those kids for the long term, I am offering a “Practice-

Every wrestler needs a USA Wrestling Card. If you have not purchased one select the top payment options and the club will handle purchasing your card. You will receive your card shortly after the season begins. If you have already purchased your card, please email me your card number. Choose the w/o card option if you already have your card.
You do not need to pay for each family member separately. One payment per family is enough. In the “Add special comments to the seller” portion of the payment, enter the wrestler’s name as it appears on the registration. Registration is not complete until I receive payment for the wrestler. Please be sure to keep your PaylPal receipt.
As I receive registrations I will update the roster. I plan to update the roster once a week. If after 1 week you do not see your child’s name on the roster, please feel free to email me. Also, please use the refresh button to ensure you have the latest information on the site.
At this time we will be accepting up to 65 wrestlers on the roster this season. Once this number is reached no other wrestlers will be accepted.
First Year Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I don’t know anything about wrestling but my son/daughter said their friend does it and now they want to. Can you give me some help understanding the sport? This isn’t the same thing as on tv is it?
Our sport is nothing like the scripted events that are on the television. Our sport
is controlled combat, not scripted and we are not actors portraying characters. We
wrestle on a 1.5” -
Q: You have a lot of practice days listed, but only mention a wrestler had to come to 2 a week. Can you explain the practice schedule? Can we come to more than 2? Does it have to be the same 2? Can we come to all of them?
You can come to ever practice session you can make it to. I only require that you make 2 a week. It can be any 2 and can change week to week to make life easier. If you can’t make practice during a week I ask that you let me know so we can plan accordingly. Once the competitions begin in January, anyone not attending their 2 practices a week will be scratched from that week’s events.
Q: What do we need for the first practice?
For practice, you will need a headgear, wrestling shoes and workout clothing. Headgear and wrestling shoes can be purchased from multiple websites. See our links page for a few of the ones I use. You can also pick these items up at local sporting goods stores, although the selection is often small.
Q: When and where are the matches? Are they mandatory to participate?
Matches begin the first Saturday after the New Year. They are every Saturday after that until the second week of March. Very seldom, because of facility availability or weather, we may wrestle on a Sunday. Matches are scattered throughout Calvert, Charles and Prince George’s Counties. Matches are not mandatory. The only requirement is if you can not or do not wish to participate in a particular match you let me know as soon as you possibly can.
Q: What is included in the registration fee?
The registration fee includes the USA Wrestling Card, membership onto the St. Mary’s Wrestling Club and membership into the Southern Maryland Junior Wrestling League.
